The more important something is to your soul, the more resistance you’ll feel showing up for it.

🌿 The More Important It Is for Your Soul, the More Resistance You’ll Feel

Understanding and Moving Through Mental Resistance

Have you ever noticed that the closer you get to something that truly matters—something that could change your life—the louder the inner resistance becomes?

You start to feel the pull of self-doubt, the whisper of excuses, or that little voice that says, “Not today… maybe next week.”That’s not a coincidence. It’s your nervous system protecting you from the unknown, even when that “unknown” is exactly where your soul wants to grow.

What Is Mental Resistance?

Mental resistance is that internal pushback you feel when facing change, challenge, or growth. It often shows up as procrastination, overthinking, fatigue, or avoidance. It’s not weakness—it’s biology. Your brain is wired to seek comfort and predictability, not transformation. But true growth—the kind that expands your confidence, health, and purpose—always lives just beyond that edge of comfort.

Whether it’s taking the first step toward improving your health, nourishing your body, moving more, changing careers, or saying yes to a retreat or life shift, resistance will show up.And that’s your cue that you’re on to something important.

🌱 How to Work With Resistance (Not Against It)

1. Recognize and Accept the Resistance

The first step is awareness. Notice where resistance shows up—in your body, your thoughts, your schedule. Maybe it’s tightness in your chest, avoidance of the task, or irritation when you think about starting.Instead of fighting it, acknowledge it. Resistance often points to fear, unmet needs, or past patterns. Awareness is the doorway to change.

2. Reframe Your Mindset

Shift your perspective from perfection to progress.Doing something is better than doing nothing perfectly.

Challenge the inner critic: ask, “Is this thought true?” and replace it with something empowering like, “I’m learning as I go.”Visualize the ripple effect of taking action—the energy, health, or joy you’ll gain—and contrast it with how it feels to stay stuck.

3. Take Small, Deliberate Actions

Overwhelm feeds resistance. Break big goals into small, doable steps. Start with a pause—take a breath, go for a short walk, or write down what feels hard about the task. Then take one action, no matter how small. Momentum builds confidence, and confidence reduces resistance.

4. Create Supportive Structures

Growth thrives in structure. Set clear, realistic goals and share them with someone you trust. Accountability turns intention into action. Build consistent routines—like a morning walk, journaling, or scheduled training time—so showing up becomes a habit, not willpower.

5. Connect With Your “Why”

Your “why” is your anchor when resistance rises. Ask yourself: Why does this matter to me? What will my life look like if I move through this discomfort? The answers will remind you that the work isn’t just about checking a box—it’s about becoming who you’re meant to be.

🌄 Growth Isn’t Easy—But It’s Worth It

The truth is, the more meaningful something is to your soul, the more resistance you’ll feel. But resistance isn’t your enemy—it’s a signpost that you’re on the edge of transformation.

As someone who combines clinical mental health training with holistic practices in fitness, nutrition, and somatic coaching, I’ve seen this truth time and time again:

✨ You can do hard things.

✨ Growth is possible at any age or stage.

✨ And you don’t have to do it alone.

Through coaching, nature therapy hikes, and Wild Resilience backpacking retreats, I walk alongside women ready to break through old patterns, strengthen their bodies, and reconnect to their inner resilience.

💬 Because yes—you have to do the work, but you don’t have to do it alone.

Ready to take the next step? Join a retreat, explore a coaching program, or connect for a clarity call. Let’s move through the resistance together—because that’s where your growth begins. 🌿
